KEEPING THE SMOKE HOLE OPEN: Kicking the Robbers out of the House
July 3, 2021
£85Kicking the Robbers out of the House, the third of three day-long gatherings with Dr Martin Shaw, will contemplate, in a world of dazzling technology, how we dig deeper into the ground of mythic experience that is uniquely ours.
On this final day, he will be telling a story he’s never told before – The Spyglass, which originates from the Caucasus Mountains. Alongside will be an older companion story that is demanding a walk – The Six Swans. Martin explains, “I’m using these Smoke Hole gatherings to push into stories I may have neglected or are fresh and unexpected to me.
“They represent both focused work and openness to whatever is trying to get through after this long languish away from other humans.
“Alongside the stories, I will continue to tell of odd magic from my own life, as a reminder that this is a world filled with marvellous and edifying mysteries.”
As well as witnessing the high drama of a story masterfully told, you will get to explore how ancient myth could be speaking directly to the conditions of your life.
The three day courses mark the timely launch of Martin’s latest book Smoke Hole: Looking to the Wild in the Time of the Spyglass, written over lockdown from his cottage on Dartmoor. The book gives us three stories, three navigational tools, to offer a different kind of perspective on the times we’re in.
